As you can see in the introduction, situated at the upper reaches of the tidal part of the river Fowey, Lostwithiel is a green and tranquil place. There are plenty of ancient buildings and antique shops to explore, woodland and riverside walks for gentle exercise, a really good golf course less than ten minutes walk away and numerous good places to eat in the evenings just a stroll away. Our local fish and chip shop is ‘The Best for miles’
To explore the river by boat or canoe down the six miles or so to Fowey, Lerryn and Golant is an absolute delight. Regular boat trips run from Fowey town quay in the summer months or you can hire canoes or kayaks locally. Beginner’s taster sessions can also be arranged. If you want to bring your own or a small boat (15ft or less), we have plenty of room to keep them safe while you are doing other things.
Most of Cornwall can be reached in less than an hours driving from here. Over the years, people from all over the world have discovered this to be an ideal little haven to explore Cornwall’s beautiful spring gardens, quaint little harbours, stunning coastal walks and the rugged granite tors and ancient monuments on Bodmin Moor.
